About Us

About Us

COLUMBIA GORGE RIVERSIDE LODGE opened as a new business in June 2001. (The buildings were built in 1989.) Angus Ruck, owner/operator of the lodge, has worked in the hotel industry for more than 20 years. Welcoming guests to his own lodging property fulfills a long-held dream.

"My goal is to provide an exceptional lodging experience at reasonable rates throughout the year. I aim to exceed guest expectations and create an experience that people will want to enjoy again and again. I am especially pleased to have opened this property in the Columbia River Gorge, which I am surprised is not as well known as some of our national parks. It contains that level of natural beauty, that abundance of outdoor recreational opportunity."

Interest in decorating the rooms with cultural themes came from Angus' travels to many areas of the world. "I have a genuine appreciation for the diversity of human culture. The décor of our rooms reflects that appreciation and our interest in welcoming and respecting people of all backgrounds."

All of us at the lodge are here to serve you!

ANDRÉA CLARK grew up in the Northwest and is still exploring this amazing region. As manager and general assistant, she understands the importance of comfort for our guests and is committed to providing an exceptional experience in the Gorge. You will often see her cheerfully greeting guests, helping housekeepers, or running errands. Andréa is meticuluous in the running of our lodge and revels in the excitement of each guest. When not working, her time is taken up by family, friends, and consuming interests including Argentine tango classes, snowboarding, and knitting.

RHONDA FORTENBERY, as head housekeeper, takes satisfaction in knowing that her guest rooms shine and the guests are enjoying themselves. She is an excellent fisherman and delights in a morning spent on the river with her rod and cup of coffee. Her passions include flower gardening and making wonderful jams. Rhonda has spent most of her life in the Gorge and appreciates the diverse activities available throughout the year. She brightens any day with her contagious laughter and twinkling eyes.
